We are desperately in need of puppy food. We have multiple litters and a few single pups. We most often use Pedigree canned and Purina Complete. Food can be dropped off at Petsense in Roanoke Rapids or our donation bin outside of the shelter fence. Click here for more information.
SAVE A LIFE - FOSTER A DOG! We had to leave dogs at Animal Control because all our kennels are occupied. Giving a temporary home to a dog will mean we can rescue a dog from the pound thus saving its life. We prefer our foster homes to be in Roanoke Rapids and Halifax area but we are open to offers. Rainbow Animal Rescue is a no-kill rescue based in North Eastern North Carolina. We are a non profit, 501(c)(3) rescue organization, EIN 20-0241166. We started our rescue in an effort to help the many unwanted, abandoned and mistreated animals in North Carolina and the surrounding areas. We foster pets in our homes until we can find loving 'forever' homes for them. Rainbow Rescue has been online since November 2nd 2003.
We have adult dogs and puppies coming in to the rescue every week, so keep checking back. If you are interested in a certain breed, feel free to email with your interest. We also are in desperate need of foster homes. Many dogs and puppies are at the Halifax pound and are running out of time. If you think you can open your heart and home to these babies, please call or write. These dogs really do deserve a second chance.
Donations of your time are always welcome. We are always looking for good foster homes (really need these), help with cleaning kennels, transports, fundraising, etc. Even a few hours a month can make a difference. If you think you would like to help out, please contact us. Cash donations are always gratefully accepted, too. We do not have a rich benefactor so we rely on donations to help the animals. If you are interested in adopting a pet from our rescue, please fill out our Adoption Application Form. We do not ship pets, but can work with you to arrange transport.
You can visit the shelter during our normal opening hours. If you are interested in a particular dog but are unable to visit at these times we may be able arrange a time outside these hours. Please email us to schedule a time to meet your newest family member. If you would like to meet more than one pet when you visit, this can be arranged.

We need people to help out at the Animal Rescue and Adoption Center, 54 Dog Pound Road, Halifax.
Do you have 2 hours of free time one day a week? We need people to help out Monday through Friday and possibly weekends from 8:30 to 10:30 am. If interested please contact
